Astounding!
What a great piece of literature. I was drawn in from the beginning, and could not put it down until it was finished. The details of both the classroom and military experience wakened all of my senses and placed me in the moment. The analogy between being a teacher and a soldier gave me a view point I was not expecting. Great read!
Dope piece of work!
I can see that my dog put a lot of time, energy, and effort into this book, real talk! I really enjoyed how he started off the 1st paragraph of each paragraph with a military/combat scenario, then transitioned that into how it compared to being a teacher in the 2nd paragraph.
Leslie painted a picture of what he experienced while downrange, and I felt like I was there with him the more I read into this book.
As an unspoken rule between vets we never ask each other about that kind of stuff especially if we’ve seen actual combat and have been negatively affected. We just let each other talk it out on our own time if we need to get that topic off our chests. I’ve learned a lot about what you had to endure bruh, and you gained even more respect from me by sharing your story with the rest of the world. That takes courage!
Exceptionally Well Written
A great read. The author has been heavily influenced by his training “In the field” and “In the classroom”. Educators deserve more RESPECT than they receive. Keep up the good work.
ASTONISHING
This is a great read for educators and parents alike. The comparisons between battlefield war for our life and freedom that we only hear about, and the silent war that goes on in the classroom that we want to ignore is so eye opening.
Magnificent
The book surpass my expectations and for this to be his first book, I just can’t wait until the next. I enjoyed reading it from the beginning to the end. At time my heart was aching for him and rest of the Military Men and Women he was serving with in Iraq. I could only say we need to appreciate the Military Men and Women alot more because they sacrifices so much to protect us all. Thanks Leslie for the first Volume to “The Secret War”, can’t wait to read the next.
Brilliant!!
A brilliant and ingenious perspective of the similarities between war and the classroom. My mouth was open in utter shock for about two thirds of the book. This author has done an amazing job of painting a vivid picture of the daily battles teachers are fighting in classrooms all across America. Our teachers, just like our soldiers, deserve to be acknowledged as the warriors and heroes they truly are. Looking forward to more books from this author.
Incredibly insightful and immersive
Two realities that no one would ever expect to compare with such convincing parallels are drawn together in THE SECRET WAR. I felt totally immersed in every chapter of this book that I have now read twice. Profound experiences that are shared in this book will change you in more ways than one.
Sign me up for the next book, please!
Enlightening!
Excellent read!! The author really takes you on a journey and gives great insight on the war educators fight each day. I have never read anything like it. This book is for everyone, we all could take something valuable from it. Definitely looking forward to more from this author!
Great read!
Excellent read! Kept me engaged so much that I didn’t want to put it down. Very well written and tells a great story. I especially liked how the author compared his time being on the battlefield in the military to the intense struggle of being an educator. Being an educator seems like a very rewarding career but also seems like it can be physically and mentally draining and way too often educators are undervalued and overworked. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books from this author.
Definitely a Good Read!!!
I was drawn into this book almost immediately! The author used great, vivid details in his description & comparison of warfare on the battlefield & in the classroom. It’s an eye-opener to both areas that most of us are not exposed to. He has been Blessed to have been apart of both and able to share his experiences with the world.
Awesome Read!
I certainly enjoyed this book! It was enlightening and kept my attention from the first page. It gives me a whole new appreciation for educators, their efforts are not acknowledged or praised enough and they’re definitely not protected enough in our society! Great way to shed light in this manner!
Thought provoking!
This book was surprising! The author takes two seemingly unrelated career fields and draws unlikely comparisons that will have you thinking! It gives a vivid perspective of the encounters our teachers are experiencing daily…even more so in our current climate of a global pandemic. Salute to our soldiers…and teachers!
A Real Eye Opener!
See the side of teaching that you never hear about. The author draws a very accurate comparison between combat soldiers and (of all things) teachers! An unconventional book that will leave you with a heightened sense of appreciation for your child’s educators.
