Combat! That was the furthest thing on my mind once I decided to pursue a career in Education.
After serving four years in the military and enduring the stress and trauma of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I was excited and hopeful about becoming an educator. I was certain that teaching would once again fulfill my desire to serve my community and country.
As soon as my career began, I quickly realized that educators experienced some of the same situations that I encountered as a soldier:
- Basic training
- Weapons of mass destruction
- Ambush
- Friendly fire
These were all scenarios I thought could only be attached to being in the military. But I would soon find these terms to be very applicable in my new position as an educator.
If "Knowing is half the battle," I had absolutely no clue of what I had gotten myself into!
